Curriculum Summary
Having a sense of agency, joy, and freedom in interacting with our sonic environment fosters comfortable, natural, and safe ways of being. Studying music connects us to our cultural history and acknowledges that all people are inherently musical.
Methodology
Game-based play through improvisation
Pedagogy focuses on the connection between body, mind, and sound
Notational and literacy skills built through composition and reading
Bowed string instruments are uniquely capable of group music making, portability, playability across ages early childhood and old age, and an adaptation across a myriad of styles and genres
Why
I am more privileged than most in my music education, and have an obligation to the thousands of students across Chicago who lack access to any music education. Throughout my life, my own musical education and musical practice has been sources for deep personal growth with the humility and joy the instrument teaches.
